"A kiss is a lovely trick designed by nature to stop speech when words become superfluous."

    - Ingrid Bergman

Ri has been playing soccer for the past five years and she really loves it. I think the word "soccer mom" has some negative connotations and I am not sure why. I gotta say It was not on my list of things that I aspired to be and I really didn't see it coming, but I have fully embraced the role of soccer mom and it is not some dainty, "sit on the sidelines shooting the breeze with the other moms", version either. I am ALL the way in. You will find me perched on the edge of my seat, pacing the sidelines screaming out directives, rallying the crowd to cheer, volunteering for things,  and making her team's banners by hand.  I know, who has time for that? And it takes a lot of time. Each season I say out loud to every member of my family, "you know, I don't think I can do it this year. It just takes too much time" and then I remember the airbrushed pink panthers and the volcanoes with the villainous faces and I feel compelled to spend a few days drawing and cutting each hand drawn element and letter by hand while I mutter under my breath about how insane a person has to be to do what it is that I find myself doing. When I jumped in to the world of handmade signage I had very little experience with "fiber art".  I didn't know that it would open up a whole new world of materials and tools. Five years in, I have procured special scissors, I know which kind of glue works best for what fabric, and I have a new-found appreciation for felt. Felt is really fun to work with. So today's craft is sponsored by crazysoccermom.org.  The nice thing about this one is that you can make it from start to finish in 20 minutes so you would be crazy not to!

    1. Hot glue along the top line of your cream felt. Take your wooden dowel and fold the top of your felt around it, creating a seam.

    2. Tie a piece of twine around your dowel, knotting it on both ends for hanging.

    3. You can use this template to draw or trace your mistletoe shape on your green felt. I used a silver Sharpie marker for this step. I drew 3 mistletoe stems with varying leaf patterns.

    4. Cut out your mistletoe shapes, securing them in a bunch with a piece of yarn.

    5. Hot glue your mistletoe onto your pennant.

    6. I cut a V at the bottom of my pennant but you could leave yours rectangular or cut a flag shape at the bottom like: W.

    7. You can frame the edges of your pennant with pompoms, piping, or ribbon.

    Hang your mistletoe!

    kiss. kiss.
